Poor Punxatawney Phil

Groundhog Day 2012

What more can you say? It was the same as so many previous Groundhog Day holidays in that half-forgotten PA town.

Would Punxatawney ever be on your mind, if it hadn't been for that classic comedy performance by Bill Murray?

Whatever your reasons for ignoring or celebrating or protesting Groundhog Day, remember that poor Punxatawney Phil has to prognosticate the weather forecast with his prodigious powers every year, in between being handled by large old men in dark long coats and black top hats. Unless you're into being someone's gimp, that probably doesn't like too much fun.

Fortunately, Laughzilla empathizes with his fellow animals and drew him a simple portrait in ode to the work of the earth pig who is ritualistically employed as a device to help control a tiny slice of culture and economics in an otherwise ordinary small town in America. Plus, this Punxatawney Phil cartoon was created to support the #OccupyShadows movement, which proposes that more of the shadows should be occupied by more of the other 99%, because the top 1% of large, fat, obese and giant living things own over half the shadows, and that just ain't light.

Now that you know whether the weather will wither, wax or wane, why not wander over to the ever popular book shop of The Daily Dose and pick yourself up some paperback or ebook editions of collected cartoons drawn by Laughzilla. At least that way you'll be prepared to wait out the next repetitive snowstorm you get stuck in, even if that happens to be next Groundhog Day in Punxatawney, PA.
